Chocolate Diamond Dessert Costs $34,000

A U.K. jeweler and a hotel chef have baked what is being billed as the world’s most expensive dessert and at 22,000 pounds ($34,700) there's few who wikll ague this claim. In fact, the Guinness Book of World Records will make it official when someone actuallys purchases the dessert.

The bejeweled chocolate dessert was the creation of the Wave Jewellery retail store in Kendal, U.K., and Marc Guilbert, the head chef at the nearby Lindeth Howe Country House Hotel. It’s an extravagant show love that will cost a lucky couple 22,000 pounds ($34,700).

Paul Henderson, the co-founder of Wave Jewellery,  selected a contempory 18k rose gold ring centered with a deep chocolate colored 2.62-carat diamond to complement the chocolate “pudding.” The ring can be made to fit any finger size after enjoying the dessert.

The cake—which will be launched during National Chocolate Week (October 10-17)—is made with four different types of the Belgian chocolate flavored with a combination of peach, orange and whiskey.

Styled like a Faberge Easter egg, the crafted dessert is layered with champagne jelly and a light biscuit joconde. It’s finished with bitter dark chocolate and glazed with edible gold leaf. It is further decorated with handmade chocolate flowers. As a finishing touch the dessert is served with champagne and strawberry caviar.

If that’s not enough luxury, the dessert comes with one of the finest and most expensive bottles of dessert wine—Chateau d’Yquem, which is priced at around 500 pounds ($788) per bottle.

The dessert also includes a complimentary night’s stay at Lindeth Howe and an evening meal.

The current world’s record, according to Guiness, is held by New York’s Serendipity 3 Restaurant with a $25,000 Frrrozen Haute Chocolate sundae.

Anyone wanting to buy the dessert will need to order it from Wave Jewellery three weeks in advance. For everyone else, the dessert will be on display at the hotel.

Wave Jewellery also has stores in London, Manchester, Lancaster and Bowness.

Mouawad’s L’Incomparable Sets Guiness Record for Most Valuable Necklace

Guinness World Records has named Mouawad’s L’Incomparable diamond necklace as the world’s most valuable necklace, according to media reports. The 637-ct. necklace is valued at $55 million.

The statement gem on the 18k gold necklace is the 407.48-ct. “Incomparable” diamond. The natural fancy deep-yellow shield step‐cut diamond is the largest internally flawless diamond ever graded by the Gemological Institute of America.

The remainder of the necklace consists of 35 round diamonds, 27 pear-shaped diamonds, nine heart-shaped diamonds, five emerald-cut diamonds, five cushion diamonds, four oval diamonds, three Asscher-cut diamonds and two radiant diamonds.

As previously reported, the luxury jewelry and timepiece company unveiled the diamond necklace at the Doha Jewellery and Watch Exhibition, which was held February 25 – March 3. It is the fourth Guinness World Record the company has earned.

In its rough state, the diamond weighed 890 carats. It was first made public in its polished state in 1984. It was then put on display in several museums, with the first being the Smithsonian Institute.

Ring Sets Guinness Record with 2,500 Diamonds

A famed Ukraine luxury jewelry house has made it into the Guinness Book of World Records for creating a ring with more than 2,500 diamonds.

Known as the “Tsarevna Swan,” the tall, highly stylized 18k white gold ring is set with 2,525 diamonds, according to Guinness. It was created by the Lobortas Classic Jewelry House of Kiev, Ukraine, and was presented and measured on July 21, 2011.

Lobortas has set the price of the ring at $1.3 million, according to published reports.

The diamonds range from 0.001-0.05 carats with a total weight of 10.48 carats. All of the diamonds are of G color and range from VVS2 to VS1 in clarity. The diamonds were supplied by Shrenuj Group, a diamond and diamond jewelry manufacturer based in Mumbai, India.

The design and development of the ring took 530 hours and fabrication took 3,625 hours, according to published reports. The ring is currently being shown in Keiv.

$11M Christmas Tree Sparks Controversy

An Abu Dhabi hotel’s attempt to enter the Guinness Book of World Records has turned into a public relations quagmire.

The 42-foot tree in the lobby of the Abu Dhabi Emirates Palace Hotel is decorated with $11 million of diamond, gem, pearl and gold jewelry. Janet Abrahams, executive director, Sales & Marketing for the Emirates Palace Hotel, told New Tang Dynasty television that the luxury hotel partnered with Star Gallery, a jeweler inside the hotel, to create the tree.

Despite being the capital of the United Arab Emirates, a wealthy Muslim nation, the Emirates Palace said the Christmas tree tradition falls within national policies of tolerance.

The elaborate decorations did not go over too well with the general public. The majority of the comments from its YouTube video presentation were negative. This type of reaction, questioning whether the tree’s opulence is in bad taste, has apparently spread to the point where the hotel has deflected the criticisms to the jeweler and has issued a statement saying it regrets “attempts to overload the tradition followed by most hotels in the country with meanings and connotations that do not fall in line with the [hotel's] professional standards,” according to media reports.

The hotel also reportedly said the tree was not a stunt but a way to boost the holiday mood for its guests.
